Process of applying for Canadian Citizenship

Citizenship Test:
Candidates must pass a test measuring their familiarity with Canada's laws, symbols, history, geography, economy, and government in addition to their rights and obligations.

Need for Physical Presence
In the five years before the application date, applicants must have spent at least 1,095 days (3 years) physically present in Canada.

Procedure for Applications
Applying online or on paper, paying the applicable fees, and sending in the filled-out application form and all relevant supporting documentation are the steps in the application process.

Choice of E-Certificate
For the majority of citizenship applications, applicants will have the option of using an electronic citizenship certificate (e-certificate) or a paper certificate as of January 4, 2023.
